Charity of the month

At togetherfriends we like to support charities that share our aims and objectives.  So we are delighted this month to support the Jo Cox Foundation, set up after the tragic death of Jo Cox MP in June 2016.  Jo was a woman who fought tirelessly for a fairer, kinder and more tolerant world.  She had great compassion and campaigned constantly for her community and  for a wider, better world.

The Jo Cox Foundation has been set up in her memory, but also to support the issues that she believed in.  The Foundation are raising money for the Syrian conflict and protecting civilians in conflict, women in public life and loneliness, all subjects close to our hearts.  The Jo Cox Foundation have set up the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness and are campaigning to address the growing crisis of loneliness and to look at ways to overcome it.

They have also launched The Great Get Together lunch, a community event to be held on the weekend of 17/18 June to mark the anniversary of Jo's death.  They are asking people to throw a get-together - big or small, a street party or just sharing cake with friends and neighbours - and to use it as a chance to enjoy being together and celebrate what we have in common.

The Great Get Together is a great way to meet up with friends, family and the wider community.  In Ilkley, West Yorkshire there will be a mega lunch on the main street, where local people will bring food to share and meet up with friends. Togetherfriends are planning on having a table at this event.  The Great Get Together offers you a great opportunity to meet up with togetherfriends friends, old and new.  Wherever you live in the UK, look out for a Great Get Together in your local town and invite your new togetherfriends friends along as well, or if one isn't on offer, why not set up your own mini togetherfriends Get Together?

How you can help:

And if you want to set up your own togetherfriends Great Get Together and invite local members along,  please get in touch. We can help you promote it with local members.
