It's been a busy week...

It’s been such a busy week.  After lots of anticipation, our http://www.5x50.org/  challenge has finally begun. Our team of two has grown into a team of six, aptly named ‘Real Women of Wharfedale’. In other words, women who need a bit of motivation to escape the coffee shop and get on their bikes.  The challenge means that we have to exercise every day for 50 days, for at least half an hour, or cover 5 km.  Today was our first team event – a run (or maybe a slow jog) around the local park. Nothing like a group gathering to provide some motivation.

I’ve done some fun things already as part of the challenge, the best being a fantastic hike up Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales with my family on Mother’s Day – a real treat to get out together, more difficult now that the kids are growing up and have part time jobs, school and college work and their own social activities.

And we mustn’t forget why we are doing this challenge.  We are raising money for a fantastic charity http://www.simononthestreets.co.uk/  that supports rough sleepers in West Yorkshire.  If you would like to donate to Simon on the Streets and encourage us in our challenge, go to http://www.justgiving.com/realwomenofWharfedale.  Any donation would be welcomed. Just £1 would make a difference.

togetherfriends has been in the news in other ways this week.  On Monday I became an official blogger in the Huffington Post, with my first post entitled ‘Making Friends as an Emptynester’ making it into the online newspaper. http://huff.to/1ikMMFd

It’s also been a busy week in Yorkshire, with a great article in the Yorkshire Post newspaper, supporting us in our aim of encouraging friendship amongst women in the UK. http://bit.ly/1h2IWUT  We’re getting a great response to the article, written by journalist http://nickysolloway.wordpress.com/, with women joining the website from all over Yorkshire and beyond.

So all is going well in the world of togetherfriends.com. We are receiving great positive feedback, so we seem to be heading in the right direction. And we have lots of great plans about how to develop the business.  More to follow in the months ahead.
