A new togetherfriends Wharfedale walking club

Last Friday was the first walk of the togetherfriends Wharfedale walking club, which is to become a regular fortnightly event.

Five of us met in Ilkley for a gentle morning walk on the moor for about an hour, before retiring for a well earned coffee and scone.

A few of us had met before, but most of us were meeting for the first time and a walk proved to be a nice easy way to chat and get to know each other. It was a gentle walk with some frequent stops to admire the clear views across the valley and up Wharfedale. We were certainly lucky to get a lovely bright clear autumn day.

Conversation ranged from family, jobs old and new, how we had come to find togetherfriends and some good restaurant and movie tips. Members were looking for new friends after retiring, children going to university or being new to the area and had travelled from Leeds, Otley & of course Ilkley.

Everyone agreed it had been a great morning out in the fresh air. We are all looking forward to the next walk, planned on Otley Chevin on Friday 6th November. It is hoped that this will continue as a fortnightly event on a Friday morning with future walks planned on Ilkley Moor, Otley Chevin, Fewston reservoir, Roundhay Park in Leeds, Settle and further afield in the Dales and West Yorkshire. Keep an eye on the events page here.

If you enjoy walking but Wharfedale is too far for you to travel you can "shout out" for a friend to walk with or you could set up a togetherfriends walk near you - email Helen@togetherfriends for more details.
