Learn to dance with your friends

aw dance and fitnessOur latest guest blog is by dance teacher, Amanda Williams who runs a dance school called AW Dance and Fitness in  the Gloucester area.  Normally she would offer real life dance classes local to where she lives, but in these lockdown times, she has gone online, opening her classes up to people throughout the country. Why not log onto her website and take a look at what she offers?  You could even join a class with a friend for extra confidence and motivation!  Here is her story...

I started dancing at the age of 5 and by the time I was a teenager I knew that's all I wanted to do. I took all my grade exams and quickly realised that I had a real passion for helping the younger students and teaching them the moves. That’s when I started to teach, and became an assistant helping at my local dance school. Fast forward more than 20 years and I am still teaching dance and have just as much passion for it as I did back then.

Of course you may not have learnt to dance at the age of 5, or have ever learnt to dance for that matter, but it is never too late to start. Until recently (within the last two years) I started to learn to play the piano. It had been on my bucket list for years, and when I finally took the plunge and had lessons, I absolutely loved it. I became fascinated with learning more about my new hobby, and I wanted to learn how to play new songs, my only wish was that I had started learning sooner.

If you’ve ever wanted to dance, or you’re looking for a new hobby, it’s never too late to start. There are so many benefits of dancing, not only for our physical health, but also for the mind. Dance can be an excellent way to relieve stress, and has been found to improve memory too. Dancing can also be a fantastic way to meet new people, or meet up with friends. Trying a new hobby with a friend can be less daunting than going it alone and more enjoyable too.

If you would love to try a dance class with a friend then perhaps try one of my online dance fitness classes. These classes have been specially designed to be low impact and therefore kinder on our joints and easy to follow. Classes are all inspired by different dance styles (salsa/latin, rock n roll and disco) and are a great way to improve your overall fitness levels. All classes are online via zoom so you don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home, but you can still see you friends dancing along with you.

So go ahead, message a friend and get dancing together, and improve your health and wellbeing with the very first class.
