A member's guide to writing a good profile
When I joined togetherfriends I was obviously looking for new friends. I needed to get the word out that I was a decent person, friendly, positive with lots of interests, so I realised from the start that my profile was key to me making new friends. I followed the instructions and completed my registration, resulting in 20 members being matched with me. They all lived within 10 miles of my home and were round about my age. So my next decision was who to contact.
First of all I looked at those with photos, as I felt more comfortable connecting with a person if I could see what they looked like. Were they smiley? Did they look like my sort of person? Did they look friendly? I then looked at their biography. Did they have similar hobbies to me? Similar lifestyles or outlook? Were they wanting to meet up for similar reasons, for coffee, an occasional walk or trip to the cinema? In other words, did they feel like my sort of person.
All these questions went through my head when looking for new friends on the togetherfriends site. And I realised that this is what other members will look for in me as well. A smiley face. A positive outlook, a little about my interests and some indication of the type of person I am - whether I have children or grandchildren, a partner or am single. Whether I sing, paint, garden or walk my dog. Whether I'm free for coffee during the week or up for a cinema trip at the weekend.
Here are a few tips on maximising your chance of making new friends through the togetherfriends site, when you fill in your profile:
What are your interests, have you got particular hobbies, do you want a coffee and chat or to find a cinema buddy?
The more interests ticked, the more women you will be matched with. You can also tick how many shared interests you would like. You will receive less matches if you tick 3 shared interests, more if you choose one.
What age are you and who are you willing to meet up with?
On age, tick as many age groups as you are happy to meet. Why not be open to meeting women who are slightly older or younger than you?
How far away can you travel to meet up? Do you want to find friends close by or can you search over a wider distance?
Consider distance searched. If you request a 5 mile radius, you will have less matches than if you request a 20 mile radius. You do however need to be realistic as to how far you can travel.
Tell us a little about yourself
This is your chance to 'tell your story'. How long have you lived in the area, what work do you do, have you a family, what do you like doing in your spare time? Lots of positive information will encourage your matches to make contact. And give some idea as to whether you prefer to meet up during the week or weekends.
Add a friendly photo
Add a photo whenever possible. Those with photos tend to receive more messages. It is good to put a face to the name and makes members feel more reassured and likely to get in touch.
Subscribed members can also make a request on the eventfriends page for local members to meet, even if they are not originally 'matched' with them. Another great way to find friends!
Want to receive up to date information on togetherfriends? Remember to 'opt in'
If you wish to receive our monthly newsletter, log into your profile and tick the newsletter opt in box.
Why not update your profile now and see if you have any new matches that you would like to message?
Registration is easy on togetherfriends - just complete the form and you are on your way towards making new friends!
And what happens after registration? You are obviously welcome to subscribe and start sending messages to your matches. Your matches will have received an email when they are sent a new match, which encourages them to log on and look at your profile. They will also receive an email when a message is sent to them (and vice versa) which will hopefully result in you getting up and running on the togetherfriends site pretty quickly!
